Grete Waitz



Legendary Norwegian runner Grete Waitz won a record nine New York City marathons, a gold medal at the 1983 world championships, and a silver at the 1984 Olympics. Sadly, Grete died this month of cancer.  She was 57.

    This is so sad! I'm embarrassed that I had never heard of her before this. Your blog is enlightening!

    I hadn't heard of her either until she died. I have friends who help keep me abreast of Scandinavians in the news.
